Army Spring Depth Chart Review: Punter
Starter: Chris Boldt #18 Sr.
Back up: Billy Fisher #36 Jr.
Chris Boldt was the Black Knights main punter during the 2011 season. He punted 31 times and averaged 39.8 yards per punt. He has a strong leg and can drive the ball at times. Chris had four punts go over 50 yards including a season long effort of 72 yards. He did a solid job limiting opponent punt returns and placed ten kicks inside the 20-yard line. New special teams coach Luke Thompson should watch a replay of the Temple game and never think about asking Boldt to attempt a directional punt. He not only can't do it but virtually every time he tried the ball he seemed to shank the ball off the side of his foot giving the opponents great field position. In the spring game he punted five times for a 41.8 yard average while placing three balls inside the twenty yard line.
The backup punter is junior back-up placekicker Billy Fisher. During the spring game Fisher punted four times for a 35.5 yard average. His longest punt during the spring game traveled just 38 yards. Fisher needs to improve his leg strength.
