Army Baseball players continue to gain more awards and honors. Yesterday, graduating 1B Kevin McKague was named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference First-Team All Star unit. RHP Chris Rowley and catcher J.T. Watkins were also selected (to the second-team unit).
This marks an unofficial end to a baseball season that also saw the Black Knights receive top-25 votes in the final baseball poll of the season earlier this week.
Kevin McKague
had an incredible season, leading the Patriot League in almost every offense category, including OBP (.475), Hits (75), and batting average (.379). He was named the Patriot League Player of the Year, and holds most offensive records for anybody that has ever put on an
Army
uniform, including hits and at-bats.
Chris Rowley
himself had a stellar season, posting an 11-1 record with an extremely low ERA and WHIP (2.40, 0.88 respectively). His WHIP was third in the entire country, while his complete game total (6) was 10th in the entire collegiate baseball world this past season. Just like McKague, he set a ton of pitching record in West Point history, including the single season record for consecutive shutout innings and wins.
Finally, the Knight’s catcher this past season,
J.T. Watkins
, was also named to the second-team all-star unit. He just finished his final year with Army, and racked up an impressive .310 batting average and 104 RBIs in his Army career. Watkins was also drafted in the 10th round by the
Boston Red Sox
, and will continue his baseball career after finishing his duty with the U.S. Military, where he’s currently a 2nd Lieutenant.
The Army Black Knights baseball team finished the season 41-15, including an 18-2 record against the Patriot League and a 24-2 record while playing in West Point. They will attempt to build on that next year with Joe Sottolano retaining his job as Head Coach/Manager of the squad.
