Vercher excited by latest offer

QB Jihad Vercher

We've been saying it since the spring, but Los Angeles (Calif.) Salesian Jihad Vercher is one of the most underrated quarterbacks in the state and worthy of a FBS offer. His first FBS offer finally came down on Monday.

Jihad Vercher's nickname should probably be, 'if only,' because he has probably heard 1,000 times how many offers he would have 'if only' he were a few inches taller. Vercher is in the 5-10 to 5-11 range and that has definitely hurt him somewhat but in terms of throwing the football, he's a real talent.

On the season, Salesian is 7-1 and Vercher has been very solid. He has completed 82-131 passes (63%) for 1,531 yards and 11 touchdowns while rushing for 697 yards and 14 more scores.

On the recruiting front, Northern Arizona was the first school to offer Vercher and now you can add his first FBS school to the mix.

"Idaho offered me this morning," Vercher said. "I talked to Coach Moses and he told me I had the offer and I was very excited. It's a relief, I feel like a big weight has been lifted off my shoulders. They want me to take an official visit and I'm hoping to set something up ASAP."

Vercher said he's hearing from a few other programs including one out of the Pac 12.

"Oregon State and Sacramento State are still talking to me," Vercher said. "Both schools want me to visit so I'm looking in to setting something up there too. Oregon State came out to a game a month ago and seem interested and that would be a great option so we'll just see how it goes."
