Zook: Monken will be tough but worth it

Multipurpose athlete Christopher Zook of St. Thomas Catholic High School (Houston, Texas) signed with the U.S. Military Academy on Wednesday. Look inside for a photo and quotes from Zook.

"It was a lot of fun" said Zook on signing with Army "It was something I had been looking forward to for a long time. It was a special day throughout with family, friends, and coaches. I've been wanting to go to Army since I was in the second grade. I get a chance to play football in college and when I come out of the academy, I'm an officer. As soon as they offered me, I was ready to sign.

"I've read a lot about Coach Monken and the five defensive coaches he's bringing in. Beating Florida this year without completing a pass was impressive on many levels. He also coached at Navy so he has experience at a military academy. He seems like a good guy. He'll be tough, but it will be worth it.

"The previous staff liked me in the secondary. I think that's where I'll play but I'll be meeting with one of the new coaches this week to talk more about it. I'm going to be visiting West Point in April and hope to be at one of the spring practices."

Zook, 6-foot, 185-pounds, was a four-year starter at St. Thomas Catholic starting at wide receiver, quarterback, running back, and strong safety. As a senior, Zook was named first team all-District and second team all-State. He was also named one of the top 100 players in the Greater Houston area by the Houston Chronicle. Zook says the highlight of his senior season was catching a 40-yard game-winning touchdown pass against arch-rival, St. Pius X, as time expired. He plans on going directly into the academy in July.
