"It actually all happened pretty fast," said Goddard. "My head coach texted me a week before signing day saying that Army was interested. He said they really liked my film. I talked with the Army coaches three or four times and they asked me to come up the weekend after signing day for a visit. I came away thoroughly impressed with what I saw. All of the history at the academy is a big deal plus the great education that goes along with it. The academic building, the athletic facilities, and the stadium are all top-notch.

"On my official I sat down with Coach Monken. He expressed to me that he really wanted me to be there. Actually, Mitch Ware coached my high school coach in college. The offense they run [at Army] is very similar to our offense. I think I'll fit well into their system. I love running the option game.

"I'm probably going to be going in direct. When I arrive the first thing is to get used to military and academic life. With football, I want to become part of the group. I'll learn off the older guys who have been there. We're going to get things turned around."

Goddard, 5-foot-11, 210-pounds, was a four-year starter in high school. At Kirkwood, he was named first team all-State at linebacker and first team all-Region at linebacker.
