Simeon Lane talks Army and Navy
"I definitely found a lot of what he said (about Navy) interesting. The academics are really good. I like that starting off out of college you're set up with a job. That's a big thing and something to think about. He offered at defensive line. I assume defensive tackle. He said he liked my explosiveness off the ball, my ability to handle double teams, and my quick hands."
Lane said the Army offer came from assistant coach Tucker Waugh and then he spoke with new head coach Jeff Monken shortly after the offer was extended. This week Air Force extended his offer list to 16 during a quick phone conversation. His offers range from five Ivy League schools (Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton, Yale) from five MAC schools (Buffalo, Kent State, Miami-Ohio, Toledo, and Western Michigan) to one Big Ten school (Illinois).
"I'm going to be sitting down with my dad and making out a summer schedule," he said. "I definitely want to visit both Annapolis and West Point."
As a junior in 2013, Lane was named first team All-Conference in the Greater Cincinnati Catholic Schools-South conference. Lane plays nose guard in a 3-3 stack defense for head coach Steve Specht. He has one goal in mind for his senior season, be a leader.
"We have some good talent returning," Lane said on the Bombers squad. "I want to be the biggest and best leader possible. I was talking with Coach Specht about what we were missing last season and we both agreed it was lack of leaders, plural. I'm building myself up to lead this team. We have some younger guys on D but I think we're going to be in good shape.
Lane said his grandfather served in the Army so receiving the offers from all three service academies was extra special. He said a number of schools are still looking at him with the most likely to offer next being Boston College.
