Taylor talks commit to Army
"I first started hearing from Army in April," Taylor said. "The first time I spoke to Coach Corless, he offered me. It was my first and, right now, my only offer. They were impressed with my speed. They said they liked various aspects of my game but speed is what they cited as being most important. They like how quickly I'm able to find and get through the hole and that's important in the style of offense they run. When I received the offer, I was really surprised by it. It wasn't something I was expecting to happen.
"At the end of June, I went with my parents to West Point. That gave me the chance to tour the facilities and speak with some of the players. Coach Monken was actually in Afghanistan when I was there so I didn't get to talk to him in person. I did talk to the coaches. Most of them were new to the Academy and were just getting used to being there. They knew who I was and i got a lot of compliments on my speed. I was just really impressed with it. The players I talked to were recruiting me a little bit, telling me I needed to come there. It was a nice place. I loved it."
Although Army is Taylor's lone offer, he did have Syracuse, Northern Illinois, Western Illinois, and Cornell knocking at his door. He went to camps at Syracuse and Western Illinois this summer. Those schools may still come in with offers, but for now, Taylor is looking forward to his senior season at Christian Brothers.
"It feels good to have a guaranteed place to go and to know I'm going to continue my football career at the D-1 level," he said. "I'm really looking forward to this season. We're going to more of an up-tempo offense like Army runs. I've been working hard on getting quicker, faster, making cuts. We should have a big year."
After a sophomore season in which he suffered a broken ankle, Taylor came back strong in 2013 with a All-Conference performance.
