The Rutgers Scarlet Knights defeated Army's Black Knights 36-21 on a wet day at Michie Stadium. The Knights from New Jersey held Army to just 306 yards total offense while rolling up over 427 yards themselves.

An early blunder by the Army offense turned into points when Army quarterback Zac Dahman coughed up a fumble which was recovered by Brian Bender for a touchdown giving Rutgers an early 7-0 lead.

Army's defense held Rutgers offense in check early with an interception on a Scarlet Knight a fourth down conversion attempt. Despite this and other opportunities, Army's offense could get very little going.

A 39-yard touchdown pass to Jerry Andre helped put the Scarlet Knights up 13-0 at the end of the first half.

The Scarlet Knights were given great field position throughout the game. Great field position helped them setup for a 16-yard touchdown pass to Tres Moses. Rutgers led Army 20-0 early in the third quarter.

The Army offense started to show some spirit in the third quarter and marched down the field but the Rutgers defense made a stand at the 3-yard line and forced a costly turnover on downs.

Finally things started to happen for Army that resulted in points. A Rutgers fumble gave Army great field position and led to a Tielor Robinson 5-yard touchdown run. Army had cut the lead to 20-7 midway through the third period.

Later in the third quarter Rutgers' Hart again found Moses in the end zone, this time from 9-yards out. The score stood at 26-7 after the Scarlet Knight's two-point conversion failed. Moses caught 4 passes on the day for a total of 40 yards.

Early in the fourth quarter, a Michael Cortese 35-yard field goal extended the Rutgers lead to 29-7.

Army would not give up. Junior quarterback Matt Silva came off the bench to lead two late Army Scoring drives. A 26-yard scoring pass to Jacob Murphy cut the lead to 29-13 after the two-point conversion failed.

Later in the final quarter Silva scrambled into the end zone from 1-yard out for another Army score. A 2-point conversion pass to Aaron Alexander pulled Army to within 8 at 29-21 with under a minute remaining.

A Cadet on-sides-kick failed and Rutgers took over the ball and control of the game. Rutgers final score came when Brian Leonard scored from 60-yards out as the Scarlet Knight attempted to run out the clock.

Army falls to 0-2 with the loss. The Black Knights host Tulane next Saturday at Michie Stadium. Rutgers improves to 2-1 and will host Navy on September 27.
