Army-Baylor 10 things to watch

The Army Black Knights play their second straight game in the state of Texas on Saturday when they face the Baylor Bears. Here's 10 things to watch for during the game.

1. The progression of David Pevoto: Here we go again. But the truth of the matter is that Pevoto is still getting better.

Still, he hasn't thrown a touchdown this season to go along with seven interceptions, including three last week against Texas A&M. Army coach Bobby Ross seems to be patient with Pevoto. So Baylor is a big test.

2. Speaking of progression, how about Barry Sanders: Barry Sanders? Well, Army running back Wesley McMahand looked like Sanders the way he was cutting against Texas A&M.

He scored two touchdowns, including a 6-yard jaunt, which he seemed to channel Sanders when he cut left to the end zone. McMahand finished with 68 yards on 14 carries.

3. Roll out 'Iron Mike': Viti electrified fans with his 25-yard run early in the first quarter against Texas A&M.

He set career highs in rushed (six) and yards (46). And, of course, he laid out a bunch of hard blocks. Let's hope Viti is a part of the offense again this week.

4. Big leg: Army has a great punter in Owen Tolson, but Baylor's Daniel Sepulveda is the man. He won the Ray Guy Award - given to the best college punter in the nation each year -in 2004. Sepulveda is averaging 43.4 yards per punt this year.

5. Money man: If Army needs a field goal to win, fans have to feel good sending Austin Miller out to nail it.

He's 4-for-5 this season and has hit two big field goals in tight spots. His 36-yarder in overtime beat Kent State two weeks ago. Miller, a senior, hit a 41-yarder late in the fourth quarter to pull Army to within 28-24 of Texas A&M last week.

6. The pick man: If Pevoto isn't careful, he could end up with a few more interceptions against Baylor.

Senior C.J. Wilson, an All-America candidate, leads the nation with four interceptions this season. If Pevoto makes a mistake his way, it could get ugly.

7. Ringing the bell: Baylor quarterback Shawn Bell is a threat to pass and run. He enters Saturday with 3,914 career passing yards. He completed 20-of-30 passes for 205 yards and a touchdown in a 20-10 win over Army last season at Michie Stadium.

8. Cameron's coming: Army defensive end Cameron Craig did it again last week when he stacked Texas A&M tailback Jorvorskie Lane - all 6-foot, 272-pounds of him, dead in his tracks on a key fourth down play late in the fourth quarter. Craig, a senior, is having the best year of his career. He has three sacks and averages three tackles for a loss per game.

9. Caleb's coming, too: Army strong safety Caleb Campbell didn't have bad games against Arkansas State.

But he didn't have Caleb Campbell games, either. He did against Texas A&M, notching 13 tackles. Campbell was one of few Army defenders that pulled Lane down.

10. The play of Sean Grevious and Kevin Opoku: Kudos to the inexperienced cornerbacks. Both have been solid three games into the season. Most fans would have to say they are surprised by their consistency. Grevious, a senior, had six tackles and forced a fumble against Texas A&M. Opoku made four tackles.
