NEW ORLEANS- Army jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead and then never looked back as the Black Knights won their first game of the 2008 season. Fullback Collin Mooney rushed for 187 yards and 4 touchdowns to lead the Cadets in rushing.
Quarterback
Chip Bowden
continued to show his heady ability to lead
Army
's option offense and ran for 64 yards. He also completed 3 of 4 passes for 39 yards and no interceptions.
After Army took a 23-7 lead into halftime
Tulane
cut the lead to 23-13 on a 49-yard pass by
Kevin Moore
early in the third quarter. However, the Green Wave failed on a 2-point conversion attempt.
Army answered with two
Collin Mooney
touchdown runs in the fourth quarter, one from 35-yards and one from 10-yards, to take a 37-13 lead with 5:12 remaining.
As Tulane desperately tried to score late in the game, Cadet linebacker
Frank Scappaticci
got into the scoring column when he picked off a Green Wave pass and sprinted 35 yards for another Army score.
Army improves to 1-4 with the win. The Black Knights are now 7-8-1 all-time against the Green Wave and have won two straight meetings. Army will next host
Eastern Michigan
on Saturday.
