The Black Knights got off to a great start but then things went South in the second half. Despite the loss, several players played their hearts out for Army
OFFENSIVE STAR OF THE GAME
SB No. 5
Patrick Mealy
Mealy proved that last week's 75-yard run at
Eastern Michigan
was no fluke. He had a 55-yard run against Duke yesterday and finished with 99 yards. Mealy is averaging 104 per game rushing.
DEFENSIVE STAR OF THE GAME
WHIP No. 42
Andrew Rodriguez
Duke tried early to get their running game going against Army. This was something they didn't try the week before in their loss to
Richmond
. Early on Andrew Rodriguez sent a message to the Blue Devils that they weren't going to be able to easily run on the Black Knights. Rodriguez had several hard tackles on that first drive and finished with seven tackles, four unassisted.
UNSUNG HERO OF THE GAME
KO No. 19 Matthew Campbell
Campbell had a rough day kicking the week prior at Eastern Michigan, missing two extra points.
Alex Carlton
kicked field goals and extra points for Army against Duke and did well. However, Campbell still helped the Black Kights greatly by kicking off for the Cadets. He boomed four kickoffs and during one kickoff he delevered a touchdown saving tackle on the Duke returner. Campbell showed good speed and tackling ability during that tackle and we can see why the coaches decided to keep him on kickoffs.
